The BLVD Harambee Project
As part of leadership work for BLVD Harambee, a HUB Congregations and Communities grantee, young people lead community outreach in the city. This photo showcases the work being done to end gun violence. The program hosted an event called Silence the Violence. It started out as a church vigil for gun violence victims in 2008 and now is a statewide event in the state of Michigan. There are 11 cities in Michigan now hosting events in the state.
Through BLVD Harambee, young people are learning how to lead in and out of the building expanding the love of God in the community in times of grieve and sorrow. Young people are also organizing other churches to work on social issues that plague society and help bring peace and healing. Rev. Barry Randolph has been faithfully leading this work now for several years.
