A Bump in the Road, but the Light Still Shines
As Church of the City continues planning for In the City, For the City: Beacons of Light, the team has encountered a little bump in the road. The original vision included taking children and youth on a lighthouse cruise through New London’s harbor, where they would explore the significance of lighthouses and what it means to be a light in their own city. However, due to the church’s schedule, the gathering is now being planned for March 2027, and lighthouse cruises do not begin until May.
While this was not part of the original plan, it has created an opportunity for the team to come together, revisit the activities, and explore other possibilities without losing sight of the heart behind the gathering.
The accompanying picture captures where the project is right now. Just around the corner from the church is the former “The Day Newspaper,” building, which is undergoing renovations. In front of the building is a sign that simply reads “BUMP.” What a fitting picture of this season! The building is still standing, the work is still happening, but the process requires some adjustments along the way.
The team is learning is that flexibility is part of the process, and that rebuilding takes time, creativity, and people willing to work together.
